WEATHER UPDATE: A major winter storm continues to impact our area with snow and ice accumulation. Minor flooding in poor drainage areas and creeks/streams in the southern Coalfields is expected to recede this evening.
As temperatures fall rapidly, a flash freeze is possible where roads remain wet as rain or wintry mix transitions back to snow.
What’s changing:
Rain and wintry mix will turn back to snow this evening, with light additional accumulation into Monday. Heavier snow showers are possible area-wide Monday. An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect across much of West Virginia Monday night into Tuesday morning.
After the storm:
Prolonged below-freezing temperatures may worsen impacts from any extended power outages. Dangerous cold is expected to settle in through the end of January.
Please use caution, limit travel if possible, and stay tuned for official updates from the National Weather Service. ... See MoreSee Less
